Abstract

Rice husk, used as a bed, has a risk of introducing microorganisms into farm several possibly infect birds raised on it. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the level of contamination with Enterobacteriaceae and Salmonella and to analyze the health risks in order to propose improvements to reduce the risk of contamination of batches. Eight samples were analyzed for counts of Enterobacteriaceae and detection of Salmonella sp. There was no isolation of Salmonella sp. However, the counts of enterobacteria were averaged 2.113075 Log FCU/g-1, 2.928388 Log FCU/g-1, 2.942988 Log FCU/g-1 and 3.195638 Log FCU/g-1 with significant differences (P <0.05), but these were not related to the risk factors studied. The results of this study warn of health risks resulting from the mishandling of beds of rice husk.
