Abstract

The dog because of the close relationship established with the human being in today's society it is essential to control of major zoonosis. Through this, this article makes a review of canine brucellosis, a disease present in Brazil triggering losses to breeders of dogs due to lower reproductive rates of females and males, besides being an important disease in public health. Aimed to address the main aspects of the causative agent, pathogenesis, clinical diagnosis, laboratory and epidemiological characteristics of disease. The clinician should be able to educate owners to the need to prevent the entry of canine brucellosis in a herd, in addition to early identify infected animals, especially when there is a history of females who had abortions in the final third of gestation or animals with low reproductive performance, to reduce the economic losses and prevent human infection.
