Abstract

Campylobacter spp. is the etiologic agent most prevalent cause of gastroenteritis food in Europe and the United States, and the intestinal tract of poultry the main reservoir of these microorganisms. The objective was to determine the prevalence of Campylobacter spp. in broilers and breeders through analysis of faecal samples collected by cloacal swabs from 279 mothers and 29 broilers. The positivity of the matrices was 13.97% (39/279) and chickens for 42.37% (12/29). The high percentage of isolated points to the need for monitoring these microrganisms and other research aimed at determining the consequences of infection in the indexes of poultry production and contamination of meat produced.
