Abstract

The aim of this was to survey the occurrence of zearalenone in a product from corn intended for consumption in the city of Teresina, Piauí, Brazil. Thirty samples of corn flour were used from six different brands sold in supermarkets of this city. The collection was conducted between January and March 2009. From the samples was performed the analysis of zearalenone by thin layer chromatography (TLC). The presence of zearalenone was not detected in none of the samples. However, it is worth to emphasize that the non-detection of zearalenone can not eliminate the possibility of its presence in the samples derived from corn, once the TLC has certain limit of zearalenone detection.
