Abstract

The great development of molecular methods has revolutionized the detection and characterization of pathogenic agents, important for human health as well as for livestock and animal care. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and all the derived methodologies allow early disease identification, detection of animal disease-carriers, avoiding its spreading in the herd, as well as the fast and precise diagnosis, which leads to a fast intervention, increasing herd sanity and consequently, food quality for consumers.
