Abstract

The improvement in the production of domestic cattle led Brazil in recent years become the main exporter of meat on the planet. The Brazilian legislation is the subject of abscesses with rigor. The abscesses are circumscribed purulent inflammation, delineated by the formation of fibrous connective tissue capsule, caused by bacteria. The objective is to survey the number of slaughtered cattle with abscesses in the states of Goias, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and São Paulo subject to the control of the Federal Inspection Service in the period 2006 to 2009, municipalities and state of origin animal with the highest number of cases of the disease. Through the post-mortem examination was made at the macroscopic view of the findings. We conclude that a total of 1,020,735 animals slaughtered, 1630 presented some findings of abscess, which represents 0, 159%.
