Abstract

Considering the research conducted in Brazil in the last 10 years, this review aimed to describe current issues related to use of dietary energy for growth, and its effect on body composition of beef cattle. Work undertaken in the period 2000-2010 show that the energy requirements of zebu animalsshow great variation in response to the farming systems used in Brazil. From 300 kg BW the net energy required for growth (NEg) increases and the kg decreases in response to increased deposition of fat in the carcass.
