Abstract

The main parasite of small ruminants in all Brazilian regions is Haemonchus contortus, an hematophagous parasite that resides in the abomasum of sheep. The research’s purpose was to perform the comparative evaluation between Famacha® method, cell volume and number of eggs per gram (EPG) of faeces in sheep. The collection of faeces, blood and Famacha® clinical analysis were done in 118 sheep in Uberlândia and Prata city (MG). Based on the analysis of the results, it can be stated that EPG and PCV were significantly correlated (P <0.05). Regarding the correlation of the degree Famacha ® with PCV, the results showed that the average values of PCV differ for each level of Famacha ®, also indicating that somehow the Famacha® is correlated with PCV (P <0.05). And when EPG is compared with Famacha®, the average values of EPG were differentiated for each level of Famacha®, indicating a significant correlation (P <0.05) between the last one with EPG.
