Abstract

By the increasing resistance of microorganisms to conventional antibiotics, it becomes necessary to search for new substances with antimicrobial properties. The plants represent an good alternative to the diversity of constituents. Enough cited in ethnobotanical surveys as a medicinal plant, the Hancornia speciosa GOMES, commonly known as mangabeira is a fruit of significant importance in the Cerrado. It is used in folk medicine to treat tuberculosis, gastric ulcer, inflammatory diseases, dermatitis, among others. The objective of this study was evaluate the antimicrobial activity of hydroalcoholic and aqueous extracts of leaves and bark of the hydroalcoholic mangabeira on the bacteria Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus, on ágar Muller-Hinton, using discs of filter paper 6 mm in diameter, impregnated with extracts at concentrations of 50, 100 and 500 mg. The results showed that the concentrations of these extracts showed no antibacterial activity against microorganisms tested.
