Abstract

Sporotrichosis is a chronic skin disease, caused by the fungus Sporothrix schenckii, which predominantly affects the subcutaneous tissue, leading to the appearance of palpable and indolent nodules that can generally develop into difficult-to-heal ulcers. Contamination occurs through traumatic inoculation of the fungus, through plant spines, wood splinters, scratching or biting contaminated animals. This disease is more frequently described in domestic cats, but it also affects other varieties of animal species. The aim of this study was to describe a review of the clinical and epidemiological findings of sporotrichosis in horses, as well as its diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
