Abstract

Alternative sources of protein in animal feeding are being increasingly used, as conventional sources are added in food and thus lead to higher prices. The gradual release of ammonia to the rumen microorganisms to a continuous synthesis of protein. The starea is the product obtained by extrusion of a mixture of starch and urea by means of high temperature and pressure, leading to starch gelatinization. Works like a slow-release complex, thus reducing the potential toxicity, and improving the acceptability and use of concentrated urea-based. The level of starea to be used in diets is the amount necessary to meet the demands of soluble nitrogen and NPN. The starea can cause positive effects on their use for ruminants.
