Animals collected by the center of zoonosis control (CCZ): a case study in the city of Mossoró-RN

The objective of this study was to report the main characteristics of dogs collected by the Center for Zoonosis Control (CCZ) of the municipality of Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte-RN. Data were collected from 100 dogs via separate sheets, containing sex, race, age, clinical data and reason for withdrawal. Among the animals captured 60% were male and 40% females, where 79% showed no racial pattern set and 21% with breed. The age group most affected was between 1 and 5 years of age, accounting for 77% of animals evaluated. Among the animals collected 73% were due to illness, where the Visceral Leishmaniasis was highlighted with 72.6% of cases and 13.7% were suspected symptoms of this disease. The other dogs were collected because they are unwanted by the owners of wandering and other diseases.
