Abstract

The Dasyprocta azarae, one of the biggest Brazilian wild rodent, is an animal that posses a high reproductive potential, as each couple can breed up to 06 young per year. For this reason, in some cases, the population control of this specie can become necessary to avoid environmental disturb. The aim of this study was to test a ovarysalpingohysterectomy surgical protocol in females pertaining to Zoológico Municipal de Catanduva, SP. After surgical arrangements and anesthesia, laparotomy and posterior ovarysalpingohysterectomy was procedure, according to literature description used in small animals. We conclude that the conventional technique can be successfully used in Dasyprocta azarae.
