Abstract

In Brazil the main ways of preserving forage is silage and haymaking. This preservation allows the supplementation of food with good quality when the growth rate of forage is low, and allows the preservation of excess production of pasture during the rainy season (Vilela et al., 2002), providing rate stability stocking of the property during the year. Silage is a process of preserving forage that seeks to preserve a forage of high nutritive value with minimal losses. The ensiling process is the conversion of carbohydrates into organic acids by microorganisms, which proliferate and create appropriate conditions for preserving forage attempt to preserve a forage of high nutritive value with minimal losses.
