Lateral canthoplasty technique for correction of "diamond eye" in dog: Case report

The "diamond eye" is the result of the presence of associated eyelid changes, such as entropion, ectropion and macroblepharon. It frequently affects dogs of large and giant breeds, as they present anatomical characteristics of enophthalmos, instability of the muscle/lateral ligament of the eyelid, facial folds and pendular ears. Corrective treatment requires eyelid surgery, being several techniques, with their modifications or associations, can be used. Thus, the objective of this work was to report the surgical resolution of a dog of the Great Dane breed with “diamond eyes”, submitted to lateral canthoplasty, obtaining quite satisfactory aesthetic results for the surgical technique employed.
