Identification of estral phases with colpocitology in ewes synchronizated with progesterone implants

In spite of contributing to the early diagnosis of reproductive disorders of female genital tract, vaginal cytology is presented as an auxiliary tool in animal reproduction program. The goal of this research was studied the vaginal cytological profile from ewes, after the estrus induction. For estrus synchronization, we used sterile intravaginal sponges impregnated with progesterone, which remained for two different periods. Vaginal smears were daily made after sponge removal, for 25 days, with sterile swabs. There was no difference between treatments when comparing the cell types. The vaginal smear profile was not able to identify the estrous cycle phases.
