Abstract

The plant anatomy has been constituted as a complementary tool of great importance for studies assessing the quality of fodder. Indicators generated by the technique allow as the comparison of species or cultivars, so monitoring the aging of tissues with the maturity of the plant. In ruminants, the rate of degradation of cell walls of forages is determined largely by the ability of ruminal biota cross anatomical barriers. Thus, the quantification of tissue present in forages can help to better understand the nutritional quality of forage. Therefore, the objective with this review demonstrate the importance of adding the knowledge related to the anatomy of plants and ruminal degradation assessments of the nutritional value of forages.
