Ehrlichiosis x Babesiosis dog: a case report

Abstract

The hemoparasitic babesiosis and canine ehrlichiosis are often associated. Transmitted by Rhipicephalus sanguineus tick, parasite cells as neutrophils and red blood cells, causing severe anemia, apathy, weight loss, anorexia, epistaxis, fever, petechiae, among other clinical manifestations. During veterinary care home in anamnsese, there was a dog with 8 years of age, Brazilian race row, with lack of appetite for 3 days. On clinical examination, it was found that the animal had to breath, eye and oral mucosa pale, apathy and mild infestation by ticks. To confirm the diagnosis, was performed with blood hematozoa research that resulted in changes in red or white, giant platelets, below the reference, in addition to viewing Babesia parasite of red blood cells. For treatment, were used dipropionate imidocarb, oxytetracycline, vitamin support and treatment against external parasites by ticks. The prognosis is good, but has apparent cure, the animal remains bearer may occur recurrent disease is necessary so the constant control of arthropod transmitter.
