Abstract

Two dogs of dachshund breed, with six weeks of age, males, with non obstructive cystic ditatation of the bile ducts and polycystic kidneys is described, similar to Caroli’s disease in humans. Severe abdominal distention and emaciation were predominant clinical findings. Partial cystectomy and hepatectomy were realized, and both dogs developed sign of hepatic failure and died. The clinicopathologic features of the disease in these pups are similar to Caroli´s disease, and may therefore be used as animal models in etiopathogenic studies for human beings.
