Abstract

Sustainability animal production has been the focus of the research in all world, owed of the global climatic changes. The animal production is based mainly on pastures. The pastures occupy two thirds of the cultivatable area in the world. The low fertility of the soil and the incorrect management are pointed as main causes of the degradation of the pastures, this causes the decrease in the sequestration of carbon that represents a compensation to the emissions of methane and nitrous oxide. This text provides data on height pre and post-grazing of some tropical grasses, some such techniques as alimentary diet, genetic breeding, use of methanotrophic bacteria to mitigate the emission of methane. Animal-crop integration system, legume use are technologies as promising to reduce the curve of emission of carbon.
