Abstract

One of the problems faced for the producers, in Brazil, is the availability of corn in the market, being that in periods of lesser it offers the prices of the bag reach platforms that for times burden the production cost. With this, some research is being made with the objective to show that alternative foods, as sorghum can be used in the rations without compromising the performance of the birds. Sorghum has similar nutritional characteristics to the ones of the corn, although slightly inferior in energy value, is a little richer in protein around 8 to 9%. It has low tenor of xantophyll and carotene, responsible for the pigmentation in the skin of the chickens. The main antinutricional factor of sorghum is the tannin, that currently the tedency is considered it with and without tannin, and with high, not more average and low tannin. The tannin when present, it can inhibit some enzymes of the digestive system or if to join with proteins affecting the digestibility. In accordance with the carried through research, the use of sorghum in diets of cut chickens the same reached performance gotten in diets to the corn base what it shows to be an excellent alternative.
