Abstract

The Hepatozoon spp. is a protozoan transmitted by arthropods (ticks, mites, lice, among others) that may act as definitive hosts and are responsible for causing hepatozoonosis. Clinical signs include anorexia, pale mucous, fever, polyuria, polydipsia, puke, diarrhea, weakness, depression, ataxy of the hind limbs, emaciation and peripheral lymphadenopathy. The diagnosis is made by identifying the gamontes in neutrophils or monocytes and the parasite can often be found casually in dogs with no clinical signs, reaffirming the case in question, where the animal did not show the symptoms of the disease, but there was the identification of gamontes in neutrophils. The treatment was done with the association of Imidocarb dipropionate and doxycycline.
