Abstract

Uterine prolapse is an obstetric emergency that affects dogs and cats, considered of rare occurrence and unknown etiology. The diagnosis can be obtained by visualizing the mass or by digital palpation, which makes it possible to make a decision regarding the choice of treatment. The aim of this study is to report a case of prolapse of both uterine horns in a five-year-old female dog with a history of prolonged labor. There are several treatment options, with anatomic repositioning of the affected structures being recommended, and emergency surgical correction through therapeutic ovariohysterectomy may be necessary. The fast and assertive diagnosis associated with the best choice of treatment resulted in the full recovery of the patient, avoiding secondary complications and ensuring the animal's life.
