Abstract

Dairy buffalo farming is an expanding activity due to the demand for dairy products by consumers. However, for the success of this dairy production activity, the remarkable characteristics of domestic buffaloes must be taken into account in the adoption of management and well-being techniques in the production systems. Thus, characteristics such as prolificacy, precocity, longevity and high adaptability to the climate are unique in the choice of this species and, consequently, in the choice of breeding method. Recently, there has been growing concern on the part of society with the welfare of farm animals, in particular this species. It should be noted that the promotion of animal welfare increases the health of the herd, which is also essential for the quality of the animal products obtained. Considering the above, this article aims to review the importance of the welfare diagnosis and the outcome of its promotion in buffalo dairy farming.
