Abstract

Pyometra is an acute or chronic suppurative infection of the uterus, with pus accumulation in uterus lumen, due to the cervix functional closing. This affection causes reduction of reproductive efficiency, wich is the most influencing factor on the herd productivity. Ozone is a highly instable gas, with no color and with high microbe kill activity, and it has been used as a cheap, confident, pratical and with no collateral effects alternative, in the treatment of several diseases in humans and animals. In this current study, a cow presenting pyometra was treated wih ozonized water for fifteen days, being six intrauterine aplications done with one litter of solution in each uterine horn, with three days of interval between the applications. The evaluation with ultrasound was done three times during the treatment, in the first application (D0), in the third (D6) application and in the sixth (D15) application regarding the visualization of uterine lumen. In the end of the treatment, the uterus showed to be completely recovered from pyometra through clinical exams and ultrasound, confirming this way, ozone as an alternative, cheap and with no collateral effects treatment.
