Abstract

Leptospirosis is a important zoonosis determined by infection with the spirochete Leptospira interrogans (sensu lato) and can affect several species, including canine, manifesting itself in wild ecosystems, urban and rural. It is caused by different species of Leptospira sp., Ubiquitous bacteria that are present in water, soil and animal reservoirs. In Brazil, the disease is relatively common. The battle of the rodents, which are natural hosts of serovar, is a constant challenge, and much has been discussed about, including resistance to rodenticides on by rodents in order to control the disease. The aim of this study was a literature review focusing mainly on the pathogenesis, clinical signs and clinical pathology of the disease in dogs, caused solely by the serovar icterohaemorrhagiae.
