Abstract

Ticks are the most important ectoparasites of tropical and subtropical regions of the world and one of the ways to control these parasites is the use of acaricides. In this paper, we proposed to study the efficacy of ivermectin 1% in cattle of the region of Martinesia, Uberlândia, MG. A total of 30 naturally infected males were divided into three groups, in two of these calves were inoculated with two different commercial brands of tick-based ivermectin 1% in a single dose of 0,2 mg/kg, intramuscularly. The last batch was not treated and was considered the control group. At predetermined days after the application of acaricides, we counted and the estimated the number of parasites in animals. It was observed that animals treated with this drug showed satisfactory slump and the average number of ticks, so it was concluded that ivermectin 1% is a good option to control the infestation of ticks on cattle of the region of Martinesia, MG.
