Evaluation of antimicrobial activity of extracts of Araticum (Annona crassiflora MART)

By the increasing resistance of microorganisms to conventional antibiotics, it becomes necessary to search for new substances with antimicrobial properties. The plants represent an excellent alternative for having diversity of constituents. Often quoted in ethnobotanical surveys as a medicinal plant, Annona crassiflora MART, popularly known as a fruitful araticum is of relevant importance in the Cerrado. It is used in folk medicine to treat wounds, ulcers, skin cancer, weakness in the digestive system, colic and rheumatism, among others. The objective of this study to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of hydroalcoholic and aqueous extracts of leaves of araticum front of Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus using discs impregnated with the extracts at concentrations of 100 and 500 mg and 1 mg. The results showed that the extracts showed no activity against the tested microorganisms.
