Abstract

Although Brazil has one of the largest pig herds in the world, still has a low rate of productivity swine, where small and medium farms account for a large portion of the creations. The pigs are affected by many species of parasites that cause irritation to the gastrointestinal mucosa, lack of appetite interfering with the daily weight gain. This study aimed to survey helminthological pigs coming from creations in the Mossoró city, Rio Grande do Norte. Has been analyzed 200 swine feces samples collected between period 2005 to 2009 and examined by specialized bibliographies. Was found the following helminthes: Ascaris suum, Balantidium coli and Isospora suis. The major prevalent parasitism was by I. suis (50.0%), followed by B. coli (33.3%). The endoparasites association with more than one parasite in a single swine (16.7%) was watched I. suis and A. suum.
