Abstract

One stallion from the race Mangalarga Marchador, five years, used for equestrian competitions and endurance running (both resistance tests), showed clinic signs as coughing, apathy, mucopurulent nose secretion, pulmonary rales, fever (39,5C) and lack of appetite. This animal was in a property where at least five animals were being treated for bacterial pneumonia secondary to viral infection. Also in the course of clinical signs the animal had swelling in the extremities of the members, peri-orbital swell and swelling of the scrotum. Features those are present in viral infections such as herpesvirus, adenovirus, rhinovirus and arterivirus. Due to the swell of the scrotum andrologic monitoring was initiated to evaluate the quality of the stallion semen. It was shown that the sperm showed characteristics of subfertility during two months after presenting the swell of scrotum and then returned to the situation considered capable of generating products.
