Abstract

The frequent presence of resident, semi-resident and wandering in the main squares of the city center of Manaus dogs may have an important epidemiological role in the spread of contamination and infections by various genera of parasites in these locations. The aim of this study was to identify the presence of forms of dissemination of parasites with zoonotic importance in dog feces present in public squares. The study was conducted with ten public squares in the city center of Manaus where 135 samples of dog feces were collected, which were processed by the techniques of Willis-Mollay and flotation. The results showed eggs of Ancylostoma sp. in 67.3% of samples, and Trichuris sp. at 9.6% and 3.8% for Toxocara sp. Associations of eggs of different parasites in the same sample were also observed. All squares presented positive samples with parasites of zoonotic potential.
