Abstract

The pancreas is a structure tube alveolar lobulated with endocrine and exocrine functions, acting in the digestive process, through action of enzymes and in control of glycemia, via hormones glucagon and insulin. In order to understand the most important macro and microscopic alterations of the pancreas, we used 50 dogs of both sexes, ages and breeds, who died at the Veterinary Hospital of Uberaba (HVU), from August 2010 to July 2011. The animals were necropsied at Laborataório of Pathology of the same hospital. We conducted analysis of microscopy slides obtained from the collected fragments of pancreas examined macroscopically, which revealed the following results: acute necrotic pancreatitis 40% 20/50, hyperplasia of the islets of Langerhans 4%, 18% acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis necrotic focal 2% Pancreatitis, acute purulent 2% 2% cysts (1/50) Hyperemia 10% (5/50) fatty degeneration 8% (4/50) hydropic degeneration 6% (3/50). It was concluded that the most frequent abnormality was acute necrotizing pancreatitis.
