Abstract

Was evaluated the chemical composition of four ingredients with potential for use in ruminant diets in the Mid-North of Brazil. The ingredients evaluated were soybean meal, buriti residue, cottonseed cake and babassu meal. Samples were obtained in trade em Teresina city (Piauí) and agribusiness of Maranhão state (buriti residue). The contents of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), ether extract (EE), mineral matter (MM), lignin (LIG), cellulose (CEL) and total carbohydrates (TC). The nutrient content of conventional ingredients (soybean meal and cottonseed cake) were consistent with literature data. Buriti residue contains high percentage of LIG (35.97%), associated to high NDF (83.59%) and ADF (58.18%) contents and low protein value (3.41% CP). The soybean meal, cottonseed meal and the babassu meal are protein sources for ruminants, deserving attention the high NDF (57.93% and 72.03%) and ADF (41.42% and 45.10%) contents of cottonseed cake and babassu cake, respectively.
