Abstract

The bezoars are solid structures, cubic or ovoid formed within the gastrointestinal system aggregation, generally, food compounds and / or by being common presence of plant materials which may be enveloped by viscous material, providing considerable resistance to the cluster. The bezoars can be formed mostly by vegetable fibers (fitobezoares), these are incriminated in the occurrence of intestinal obstruction in goats, sheep and wild ruminants. The most common clinical findings related disease are anorexia, lethargy, colic, hypomotility, scant feces, shock with fluid increase in the rumen and abomasum, drop in temperature and tachycardia. The objective of this work an update on the pathological picture of intestinal obstruction by phytobezoar in cattle, from addressing its history, etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, control and preventior.
