Characteristics and productivity of experimental hybrid of japanese pumpkin in Iporá – Brazil

The aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomic performance of national experimental hybrids of cabotia compared to commercial imported hybrids. The experiment was from November of 2014 to January of 2015. The seedlings (ten days after seeding) was transplanted to spaced holes 2,0 x 2,5 m. The fructification by parthenocarpy was induced with 2.4-D. The harvest was realized 90 days before the seeding. Two half brothers experimental hybrids (HC01 and HC02) was obtained from IF Goiano, Campus Iporá, collection (germoplasm bank) and two commercial imported hybrids, "Japonesa F1" and "Kyoto", was purchased in local market. These hybrids were submitted to phytotecnical and agronomic evaluation in Iporá, GO. The data was submitted to analysis of variance and decomposed in orthogonal contrasts, applying F test. The experimental and commercial hybrids had a cabotia productivity equal to 11.12 and 9.24 Mg.ha-1, respectively. The productivity and mean weight of cabotias higher than 2.5 Kg (appropriated for processing) was significant higher to experimental hybrids (5.88 Mg.ha-1 and 3.33 Kg) compared to commercial hybrids (3.20 Mg.ha-1 and 3.05 Kg). The experimental hybrids HC01 e HC02 has productivity potential higher than commercial hybrids evaluated.
