Abstract

This experiment evaluated the effect of leucaena addition on the levels of crude protein and of minerals, in the elephant-grass silage. The experimental design was completely randomized, with three treatments and three replications. The treatments consisted of addition of 0; 15 and 30% of leucaena cultivar 1902 forage to silage elephantgrass. The addition of 15 and 30% of leucaena forage increased the levels of crude protein of the elephant-grass silage from 4,06% to 6,27% and, 7,19%, respectively, which corresponds to an increase 54,43% and 77,09%. However the silage mineral contents (calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium) were not affected by the different levels of leucaena.
