Conservative treatment and rehabilitation of Rupornis magnirostris with patagium lesion

The patagium is a thin, slightly vascularized membrane with a ligament that runs along the cranial end and, in tandem with its local feathers, produces aerodynamic lift aiding in flight. Injuries in this region make it impossible to fly, requiring the use of therapeutic measures for recovery of this ability. The aim of this paper is to report a case of conservative treatment with physiotherapy in a patagium injury. One specimen of Rupornis magnirostris was seen in the wild animal sector of the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia with a lesion in the patagium, associated with a fracture of the coracoid secondary to trauma caused by a ballistic projectile. Immobilization and X-rays were performed, and physiotherapy was initiated with recovery of the ability to fly.
