Abstract

Brachycephalic Syndrome is a combination of anatomical and physiological abnormalities that results in the obstruction of the airways in short-snouted dogs. These animals have primary malformations such as stenotic nares and an elongated soft palate, which can lead to secondary malformations over time. Each animal can present these abnormalities with different degrees of intensity. The patient may present clinical signs such as snoring while awake and asleep, cough, choking, exercise intolerance, dysphagia, reverse sneezing, dyspnea, and cyaniasis. These abnormalities from brachycephalic syndrome are progressive and degenerative. The report aims to present the surgical techniques of a staphylectomy using an ultrasonic scalpel and rhinoplasty, used to correct respiratory syndrome in a pug canine, combined with the diagnosis and treatment of secondary respiratory alterations through laryngotracheobronchoscopy.
