Abstract

Traumatic injuries of teat or mammary gland are common in dairy cattle and in addition to myiasis, duct stenosis and mastitis may lead to surgical treatment. Several suture techniques and amputations have been described in literature aiming to achieve a proper healing and return to milk production, reducing the damage to the producer. Although easy the teat surgery can lead to complications, reducing milk production, often resulting in animal disposal. Thus, appropriate management techniques assist in keeping the integrity of the teat in order to decrease surgical intervention and a consequent decrease in milk production.
