Abstract

The oral cavity is severely affected by neoplasias and corresponds to the fourth most frequent site in small animals. Melanoma is a malignant neoplasm characterized with much or little production of melanin, the latter having a more aggressive behavior. The present work aims to report the case of a 2 year old dachshund male dog with a slight increase in the infraorbital region and in the oral cavity a mass of reddish color with blackish areas of firm consistency located in the region Right jaw Histopathologic examination suggested amelanotic melanoma. The patient underwent chemotherapy with carboplatin (300 mg / m², EV) every 3 weeks for 3 sessions and corticosteroid therapy with prednisolone (2.2 mg / kg, SID, VO) continuous use, followed by 3 sessions of cryosurgery with Interval of 15 days. Due to the aggressiveness of the neoplasia and the poor general state of the animal, euthanasia followed by necropsy, which revealed metastasis in the right submandibular lymph node. Amelanotic melanoma is frequently diagnosed in the small animal clinic, requiring further studies to develop effective treatments for this type of neoplasm.
