Abstract

The gingivitis-stomatitis-feline pharyngitis complex is a chronic inflammation, responsible approximately for 72% of dental diagnosis. Due to the progressive dysfunction of the immune system in FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) positive cats and the possible common association of the virus with Chronic Gingivitis, the purpose of this review was to investigate the role of IVF on the severity of the complex gingivitis-stomatitis-pharyngitis feline. Researches were found evaluating the oral microbiome of FIV-positive and negative felines, also based on studies of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is concluded that the etiology of feline gingivitis-stomatitis-pharyngitis can be uni or multifactorial, however, there are no studies that prove the relationship between IVF and feline chronic gingivitis-stomatitis.
