Abstract

Alimentary lymphoma (AL) is the most prevalent hematopoietic tumor in geriatric felines, with three different histological grades: low, intermediate and high, with low grade being predominant. Environmental and infectious factors, such as feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), feline leukemia virus (FeLV), tobacco smoke, and inadequate diets, increase the risk of this neoplasia. Common clinical manifestations include chronic vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, and progressive weight loss. Diagnosis is primarily through intestinal biopsy and should be conducted early to allow for treatment with prednisolone and chlorambucil, providing good quality of life and longevity for affected felines. The prognosis for small-cell AL is reserved, with an average survival of 18 months and a high remission rate when treated effectively.
