Abstract

The State of Pará (PA) is the second largest milk producer in the North Region of Brazil, being of great importance for regional family agriculture. The objective of this study was to characterize the milk production systems and the socioeconomic profile of the producers of the Lake Region of Tucuruí, PA. A quantitative study was carried out, based on the application of questionnaires to 66 producers, between June and September 2015, whose data were evaluated by means of descriptive statistics. The results indicated that most of the production systems are extensive, based on the use of pasture as the main nutritional resource. The evaluated producers had low level of schooling, technical assistance is scarce and there is little use of technologies for the prevention of animal diseases.
