Abstract

Diabetes Insipidus is a polyuric syndrome where there is a deficiency in the secretion or response to the antidiuretic hormone (ADH). It can be classified as central diabetes insipidus when there is a deficiency in the production or secretion of ADH, or nephrogenic diabetes insipidus when the renal tubules lose their ability to respond to ADH. The present study aims to report a case of central diabetes insipidus in a Yorkshire terrier dog aged 4 years and 3 months. The diagnosis was obtained by excluding kidney disease and other endocrine diseases, in addition to the water deprivation test. The treatment was performed with 0.1mg / ml Desmopressin Acetate, conjunctivally, every 12 hours. After the start of treatment, the patient showed clinical improvement, reducing polyuria and polydpsy.
