Abstract

Renal agenesis (RA) is a rare congenital defect in cats, consisting of the complete absence of a kidney, reflecting a complete failure in nephrogenesis associated with fetal malformation. Unilateral agenesis can occur as an isolated abnormality or as a component of syndromic disorders. Diagnosis can be made through imaging exams such as ultrasonography and/or abdominal radiography and through exploratory laparotomy surgical procedure. The present report aims to describe the case of a 9-month-old female Ragdoll cat, which initially complained of vomiting and pollakiuria and, after complementary exams, the absence of the left kidney was found.
