Abstract

This study aimed to report a case of dermatophilosis in a breed-free goat defined in the township of Santa Rita located in the state of Maranhão. During the clinical examination of the skin were observed crusted lesions, high, circumscribed and well delimited, of hard and brittle aspect, not pruriginous and located in the vulva, udder, nasal region and hooves of the animal. Samples of the lesions were collected and subjected to cytological analysis at the laboratory of Pathology of the Maranhão State University, confirming the diagnosis of dermatophilosis. The majority of cases related to dermatophilosis evidence that stressful factors associated with prolonged periods of rainfall with high humidity and elevated temperatures besides the presence of mechanical lesions of the skin, promote the imbalance of the immunological defenses of the animal. Such factors favor the penetration of the Dermatophilus congolensis, causing exudative dermatitis. The occurrence of dermatophilosis in goats in the municipality of Santa Rita should serve as an alert to the services of agriculture defense and public health, considering the zoonotic aspect of this disease.
