Abstract

Among the infections that affect horses, those of the respiratory system occupy the second place in prevalence, and antibiotic therapy is recommended as a treatment. Regarding the main ones, we can mention equine infectious adenitis, pneumonia, rhodococcosis and sinusitis, and for an adequate antimicrobial therapy in the treatment of these diseases, it is necessary to consider some factors, which involve from the animal species, the microorganism causing the infection and the drug to be administered. used. In view of this, it is extremely important to know about antibiotics, their mechanisms of action and which pathogens are sensitive to them, so that a correct therapy can be carried out, thus preventing the evolution of respiratory disorders to chronic and more complex processes. The objective was to carry out a literature review on antibiotic therapy used to treat the main respiratory system infections in horses.
