Abstract

Canine dermatophytosis manifests itself in a heterogeneous way, being a very common cutaneous fungal disease among companion animals, usually caused by microorganisms of the genera Microsporum spp., Trichophyton spp. and Epidermophyton spp. The presentation of kerion-type dermatophytosis, also called nodular dermatophytosis, is the clinical manifestation of a cutaneous mycosis characterized by a deep dermatitis that varies from a granulomatous to pyogranulomatous reaction, with the appearance of an edematous, circular and alopecic nodule. A case of a kerion-type lesion was reported in a seven-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, treated at a veterinary clinic in Cacoal (Rondônia), with a nodular lesion in the left costal region. It was a dermatophytic lesion with secondary bacterial infection, purulent secretion, alopecia, and no drug response, leading to the surgical removal of the lesion. At the end of the treatment, clinical cure was obtained, with no inflammatory process and total repilation of the injured site.
