Abstract

Paraphimosis is the inability to retract the penis towards the sheath or foreskin. For correction, several techniques can be used, including phallopexy, which is a procedure to create a permanent adhesion between the body of the penis and the preputial mucosa. The aim of this paper is to report a case of a male Pitbull canine, 7 months old, 18 kg, not neutered, treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Passo Fundo with a complaint of incapacity for penile retraction. The diagnosis was obtained through visual inspection. The patient was referred for surgical procedure for phallopexy and elective orchiectomy. The animal showed remarkable recovery after the surgical procedure. Paraphimosis compromises circulation and causes the penis to become swollen, which can progress to corpus spongiosum thrombosis and necrosis.
