Abstract

With the progression of the complexity of neurosurgical cases, there was a concomitant technical advance in the diagnostic management and treatment of such diseases. “Surgery” means invasive procedures with precise purposes that can be used both for the diagnostic definition and for the palliative or definitive treatment of certain organic conditions, aiming at the adequacy/alteration of the physiological functions or the anatomical structure itself. The operative maneuver to establish an access route to the brain is called “Craniotomy”. In the approach of small animals, the most frequently used craniotomies are subdivided into: Lateral or Rostrotentorial Craniotomy, Transfrontal Craniotomy and Suboccipital Craniotomy, used for the treatment of neurological clinical cases elucidation aiming at improving the neurovegetative quality of life of animals affected by such pathologies. The present work aims to explain the main Brain Surgeries in dogs and cats within Veterinary Medicine.
